Oblivious
The film begins with Katie at a friends birthday party, she has had to much to drink and is all over her boyfriend (James). It ends with Katie and James making there to the bedroom and the rest is left to the audiences imagination. About 5 weeks later we see Katie asleep who suddenly wakes up by feeling violently sick, and she has a thought as to why that is. Taking a pregnancy test out of her bag she heads to the bathroom. Upon her journey she wakes up younger sister Lillian. Lillian goes running into her parents (Rachel and Adam) announcing whilst jumping onto their bed that she loves them. The rest of the family awake. Katie’s test is positive. Older sister Mel needs to use the bathroom and is banging on the door to get a startled Katie out. Katie hides the pregnancy test under her bed. The family head down and as mother (Rachel) does a head count she realises that Katie is missing. Calling Katie down she reluctantly follows. The begin to open presents and Katie looks rather subdued and miserable. Present opening ends and its time to get dressed. Whilst mum starts up the oven for the big meal that awaits them. Mel, who shares a room with Katie, gets dressed first and upon putting her ear ring in she drops it. Looking on the floor for it she sees something under Katie’s bed; the test. An annoyed Katie who has had to wait outside so long for her sister to get dressed walks in and finds Mel holding it in shock. Mel tells Katie she tells their parents or she will. Upon finishing the meal and plates being taken out, there is a lot of fuss at the family table over wine, glasses, crackers and what is for pudding. As they pass one another things Katie hands her mother the test. Rachel screams as she cant believe what she is holding and presumes that it is Mel, who angrily replies that its Katie’s. The film ends with the family gone all silent for once and Katie announcing that she is keeping it as she doesn’t believe in abortion.
